Ironton
Tribune Friday, April 15, 1932
C. Russell Neal, age 37 years, son of Squire and
Mrs. W. N. Neal, formerly of Ironton, was one of the victims in
the state house explosion at Columbus Thursday afternoon and his
body will be returned here for burial. It will arrive from
Columbus early Saturday morning and will be taken to the Feuchter
and Davidson funeral home. Funeral services will be conducted at
St. Paul Lutheran church at 4:30 p.m. Saturday by Rev. Kahle, with
burial in Woodland cemetery.
Complete arrangements for last rites have not
been made as the family of the unfortunate man will not come in to
Ironton until tonight, after the body has been placed on a train
for Ironton.
Known as "RUSS" Russell Neal, known as "Russ" to
his numerous Ironton friends, was reared in Ironton and for years
the family resided at Seventh and Etna streets. He was an
electrician by trade and a World War veteran.
Soon after his marriage to Miss Edith Fillgrove,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Fillgrove of Sixth and Lawrence
street, the family moved from Ironton and during the last nine
years he had resided in Columbus, where he was employed by the
Giltmore Electric Company. While in Ironton he was an employee of
the George Brothers and other electrical concerns.
Word of his death in the blast was received in
Ironton late Thurs. afternoon and Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Fillgrove,
accompanied by their grandsons, Lester and Chester Fillgrove, left
immediately for Columbus. They will return with the widow tonight.

Very Popular
Mr. Neal was a highly popular young man during
his residence here and was an active athlete. He was a member of
the Ironton Masonic Lodge. Information from Columbus indicates he
was struck by the full force of the blast as hurled against
high-tension wires. It is improbable that his casket will be
opened to friends.
Mr. Neal is survived by his widow, his parents
Squire and Mrs. W. N. Neal of Huntington, three sisters and one
brother. One child preceded him in death. He was the nephew of
Squire W. H. Neal, south Fourth street.
