John F. Caldwell
Passed Away Tuesday Afternoon
John F. Caldwell, one of the pioneer settlers of Hanging
Rock and for many years engaged in furnace work, passed away early
yesterday afternoon at his home, aged 88 years. Mr. Caldwell was a
veteran of the Civil War and was a member of Co. I., Second Kentucky
Cavalry. He was one of the best known men of this section and was a
member of Dick Lambert, Post, G. A. R., of this city. Mr. Caldwell
spent most of his life in this vicinity and was actively engaged until
a few years ago. His death was due to infirmities of age.
The deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. A. C.
Rutledge of Portsmouth, Mrs. Chas. Kemp of Miamisburg, Ohio, and Mrs.
Friedel, wife of Dr. Friedel of Memphis, Tenn.
The funeral services which will probably be under the auspices
of the G. A. R. have not yet been announced. Gholson and Sons will
have charge of the services.

CALDWELL FUNERAL THIS AFTERNOON
The funeral services of the late John F. Caldwell will be
conducted this afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the home in Hanging
Rock. Burial will be made in the Hanging Rock cemetery under the
direction of Gholson and Sons. In mentioning the surviving sons of the
deceased the name of Thomas Caldwell of Portsmouth, Ohio was omitted.
