The following was
copied, word for word, from the Ironton Semi-Weekly Register dated
10 September 1915. There are obviously some spelling and
grammatical errors but I wanted to copy it exactly as it was printed
in the newspaper.

CLAIMED BY DEATH

Henry Crawford of
Waterloo the aged father of W. H. Crawford of this city died at the
home of his daughter Mrs. William Gillen Sunday night at the
advanced age of 86. The deceased had been failing for some
time and his end was no surprise to his family though it came as a
grievous shock to his many friends throughout the county. The
funeral will be held Wednesday morning at Marion with Rev. George
O'Neil in charge of the services.
Mr. Crawford was a
veteran of the Civil war having served in the 9th
Virginian Cavalry under Sheridan in the army of Virginia.
During one of these raids in West Virginia, he was captured and
taken to the southern prisons where he was a prisoner nine months
after which he was released and again entered the ranks serving
until end of the war.
The deceased was a
fine neighbor an honest citizen an honest citizen and was always one
of the strong men of the county, and though his age and kept him
from being the power he was in former years this community will feel
a distinct loss by his demise. Besides Mrs. Gillen and W. H.
Crawford he is survived by the following sons: Carl Crawford
of Columbus and Clyde Crawford of Huntington and Elva Crawford of
Wellston.
