Obituary of a Civil War Veteran
W. H. Dilley
DIED LAST NIGHT
W. H. Dilley, of Company A,
98th Regiment Vol. Infantry, was killed instantly in a charge of that
gallant regiment , on Selma, Ala., on the 2d day of April, 1865. He
was shot while rolling up a stake to climb the breast works. Bro.
Dilley emigrated from Ohio, with his family, some fifteen years ago,
to Stafford township, Illinois. In the Summer of 1862, he enlisted in
the service of his country. He was kind to all, and a warm advocate of
his country's struggle for freedom.--Bro. Dilley was endeared to all
who knew him, and an affectionate father as well as husband. He was
kind and true; also a Christian, firm and unflinching, and as a
patriot, true, noble, brave and daring. He leaves a devoted wife and
six children, and a large number of friends and relatives to mourn for
one whose lose to them is his eternal gain.
E. A. Lewis, Stafford Township, Illinois
