Obituary of a Civil War Veteran
JOHN R. HALL
John R. Hall, 75,
Spanish-American War veteran, died at the home of his son, Andrew
Hall, Sedgwick back road, Saturday at twelve o’clock noon. He had been
in poor health for the past four years.
Mr. Hall was born January 1,
1878 at Rush, Ky., son of the late John S. and Paulina Conley Hall. He
was educated in Carter County schools. On April 22, 1913, he was
united in marriage to Gladys Goff. Mr. Hall was a retired mine
superintendent and a member of the Edward C. Smith Encampment of
Spanish-American War Veterans.
Surviving are the wife,
Gladys Hall: two sons, Andrew and Thomas Hall, both of Ironton; a
daughter, Mrs. J. J. (Pauline) McKee of 703 1/2 north Fourth street; a
brother, Thomas Hall of West Logan, W. Va.; three grandchildren, Kay
McKee, and Patricia and Sue Hall; three sisters and a brother preceded
him in death.
Funeral services will be
conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Baker Funeral Home with the Rev.
Clarence E. Corn officiating. Interment will be in the soldiers’ plot
in Woodland Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home where friends
may call after 6 o’clock this evening.
