Obituary of a Civil War Veteran
John Harvey
91ST BIRTHDAY
91ST BIRTHDAY Mr. John Harvey of Eleventh street
entertained a few of his friends at dinner Thursday in honor of his
91st birthday. Mr. Harvey was born at Springfield, O., in the year
1814. He enlisted in the Civil War as private in Co. A. 18th Ohio,
April 18, 1861. He was then 46 years old. Aug. 23rd 1861 he enlisted
in Co. G. 2nd W. Va. Cavalry and was honorably discharged at Wheeling,
W. Va. June 30th, 1865. Mr. Harvey came to Ironton in the spring of 51
and has lived here ever since. He has been married twice. One son was
born the first union. He enlisted with his father who was killed in
'63 in the battle of Lewisburg, W. Va. Mr. Harvey received many useful
gifts. Those present to enjoy the occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Zeek, Frank Emmert, Mrs. and Mrs. Will Farmer, Mr. and Mrs. Will
Emmert, Mrs. Mary Sharp, Bertha and Annie Emmert.
