William H. (Bub) Hayes
WM. H. HAYES, CIVIL WAR VET OF PROCTORVILLE PASSES AWAY
The ranks of Lawrence county's Civil War
veterans was reduced to five this morning when William H. (Bub) Hayes,
esteemed Proctorville veteran, died at the age of ninety years.
Mr. Hayes, private in Company E of the 7th West Virginia
Calvary died at his home in Proctorville this morning at ten o'clock
following a brief illness. He became ill last Friday night during a
conversation with his wife and his condition had since been critical.
Death of Mr. Hayes reduces the ranks of G. A. R. veterans to
five survivors including Perry Brumfield of Waterloo, Peter Hunter of
Ironton, David Hoover of Athalia, Robert Simpson of Chesapeake and
James Wilson of Aid.
Surviving Mr. Hayes are his widow Sarah, four daughters, Mrs.
Cora Lemley of Proctorville, Mrs. George Sanborn of Scottown, Mrs.
Oscar Flowers of Huntington, Mrs. Theresa Wallace of Coal Grove, one
son, Oliver Hayes of Scottown, one brother Turner C. Hayes of
Dobbstown and two sisters, Mrs. Scott Brammer of Albony, Ind., and
Mrs. Athie Wells of Charleston, W. Va.
Funeral arrangements are in charge of Undertaker Schneider of
Chesapeake.

Last rites for William H. Hayes,
Proctorville Civil War veteran, will be conducted in Proctorville
Baptist church at 2:30 p. m. by Rev. Wm. Caudill and Rev. Sam Murdock,
with burial in Centenary cemetery in charge of Schneider.
