9TH VIRGINIA INFANTRY CONSOLIDATED

IRONTON REGISTER 22 DEC 1864
The two regiments were consolidated on the 1st
of November, by order of the War Department. Very few of the old
officers of either regiment now remain. The new regiment is styled
the first veteran West Virginia infantry. The new regiment numbers
952 of whom 800 are present for duty. By spring it is presumed it
will number 1000 veterans. Letters designated for this regiment
should be sent via Martinsburg, to the 1st West Virginia Veteran
regiment. The following have been commissioned as officers in this
regiment:
Field and Staff, Col. I H. DUVAL, at present a
Brevat Brigadier, commanding the Department of West Virginia, in
the field.
