Joseph Davidson The State of Ohio,

Lawrence County S.S.

Before me, the undersigned, one of the Justices of the Peace, within and for said County, came personally Jonas Combs and Margaret Combs, his wife, the above grantors and acknowledged the above indenture to be their voluntary act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned.

Said Margaret Combs, (who hereby relinquishes her right of dower in the premises) being by me examined, separate and apart from her said husband, agreeably to the statute in such case, made and provided, as acknowledged that she signed and sealed the same of her own free will and without fear or coercion of her husband.

Given under my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of November, one thousand and eight hundred and thirty three.

Tho. Kerr, J.P. (Seal) The State of Ohio, Lawrence County S.S.

Recorders office at Burlington, November 30 1833,

The foregoing is a true copy of the original received for record, November 26th 1833 and this day recorded. Jos. Wheeler, Recorder Fees $ 0. 87 ½

This is from Lawrence Co. Ohio Deed Vol. # 6, pg. # 228-229, available at the Lawrence Co. Ohio Recorders office.

This land in Sec. # 31 is adjacent to Sec. # 32, where Andrew P. Kouns had received land from his father, Christian Kouns. Margaret Comb’s father, George Kouns, is also a son of Christian Kouns.

(See Lawrence Co. Ohio Deed Vol. # 5, Pg. # 105-107 and “Record of Wills of Lawrence Co. Ohio, Book # 1 1846-1860, Pg. # 31-36 (George Kouns Will)

According to the records of “The Hardin Co. Ohio Pioneer Association” Pg. # 42 (Original Book in possession of Hardin Co. Ohio Genealogical Society) Jonas Combs moved to Hardin Co. Ohio on 23 March 1834.

The above deed helps to support that statement by showing Jonas Combs selling this land in Lawrence Co. Ohio prior to that date.

Later, in Hardin Co. Ohio, Jonas Combs would buy 1000 acres in partnership with Jacob Koons, (See Hardin Co. Ohio Deed Vol. N, Pg. # 389 and 390) Jacob was also named as a son of Christian Kouns in Lawrence Co. Ohio Deed Vol. # 5, Pg. # 105-107 and from 11 Sept. 1816 to 3 April 1829, Jacob owned land in Sec. # 24, Township # 2, Range 17, in Lawrence Co. Ohio (See General Land entry files at the National Archives and Lawrence Co. Ohio Deeds Vol. # 5 pg. # 205-206 and Vol. # 5 pg. # 206-208)

Jacob’ land is approximately 2 miles from the land mentioned above as sold by Jonas Combs to John Combs.
