William served during the civil war under General Thomas and took part in the engagements at Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge at Chattanooga, TN.

I.R. Oct 19, 1899 Wm Adkins of South Point was fined $26.50 in Squire Henry's court last Thursday, for assaulting his nephew, Jerry Adkins, with a club.
