Frederick and Elinor Haf Bartels first appeared in 1811 when Frederick purchased land in Upper Township,
Lawrence County, but was then Scioto County. He immigrated from Baden, Germany, date or place of entry unknown,
along with his sister Elizabeth and her husband Christian Walbright. Frederick is buried in Puckett Cemetery, located
on the farm of Christian Walbright in Elizabeth Township.

Frederick was born about 1777, died 7 Nov. 1842. He bought and sold several parcels of land in Upper and Elizabeth
Township. He's on the 1820 and 1830 census in Upper Township, the 1840 census in Elizabeth Township.
In an article written by Amos Carpenter for the "Ironton Register" April 14, 1892, Carpenter said Hanging Rock was built
on part of old man Bartles farm. Carpenter also said his father, Fred Bartles, John Steece, Joseph Huffman and William
Wolf built Centre Furnace in 1836 and sold it to Robt. Hamilton, James Rodgers and William Shirer. Bartles Station in
Elizabeth Township was named for Frederick Bartels.

Frederick's will left everything to his wife Elinor and upon her death to his children. Elinor began giving her children their
legacy and eventually sold all and moved to Illinois with her nephew Christian Frederick Walbright and his family.
