Carl, Don't know if this will help in what you are looking for but found the following from the early days of the station: 1951-The Communications Commission granted the application of G.G. Merrill for a new standard radio station for Ironton--the city's first; The station would operate at 1230 kilocycles, 250 watts, opened Sept. 15 to the public and went on the air Sept. 23.
1954--Clint E. McElroy and C.A. Baker purchased the radio station WIRO in April Both men had been on the station staff since 1952 and reside in Ironton. Thus the station was home-owned for the first time; Baker came to Ironton as treasurer and chief engineer of the corporation and McElroy was secretary and general manager. They continue in those capacities.
WIRO Radio.
Where, if possible, can I find history of this radio station? It appears, since it has merged with some other company, all history is lost.
WIRO Radio
