WATER WORKS
I.R. Sept. 14, 1871
The foundation of the Water Works building is laid.

ELECTRIC LIGHTING
I.R. Aug. 23, 1888
The city should be very careful about granting exclusive privileges
for lighting the streets with electricity to anybody. This electric
lighting business is in its infancy, and no wise community will
consent to better itself to the conditions of today. We can get along
with our gas for a year or two, but if we feel that we can't do that,
then let the city build its own works, or make out exact
specifications and scour the country for the lowest bidders. That is
the only way to do business.

ELECTRIC LIGHTING
I.R. Aug. 23, 1888 - CITY COUNCIL
Besides the routine business of the Council Friday night, Mr. Miller
offered an ordinance to grant the exclusive electric light privilege
to H. Burkholder and associates for 25 years. The ordinance also
includes exclusive privileges of furnishing electric heat and power.
Under its provisions the city gets 100 2000 candle power lights at 35
cts a light per night, and business houses 16-candle incandescent
lights at $3 per month. Ordinance referred.
One electric light bid was received, from Chas. T. Loring, a
Cincinnati agent. The Light Committee had about 40 letters from other
parties asking for specifications. This one bid was for 50 to 100 arc
lights at $10 per month, or 100 to $150 at $9, or 150 to 200, at $8.
Bids referred.
