birth and parents/adoption for Elizabeth Kemp in 1850
Donna,
Don't let what I'm about to tell you disuade your search in any way please. However, in case it had not occurred to you I thought I would point out something I have discovered in my many years doing this Genealogy thing on family in Lawrence County and Cabell County W.Va, and Carter County/Boyd Kentucky. Often more than not was the case that couples crossed the river and married to prevent being stopped by family or having nosy neighbors in their business etc.!. My folks for instance married in Boyd County Kentucky but lived in Huntington. I have grandparents that lived in Cabell County that crossed into Lawrence Co. Ohio to marry too. People in those days were rightfully very distrusting of people in general and particulary had distrust in any government body! Sometimes it was becuase of age differences between bride and groom or becuase they didn't want anyone to know they had married until it was too late. I have found this to be the case all over the ohio valley families I research. I have tons of family from the Braxton, Lewis, and Randolph County areas of WVa. too and the same held true with them. Sometimes they would cross the river to be near family who supported their marriage when mom and dad may well not have! Just food for thought!

Henry W. Fowler
I'm trying to find a birth record for Henry W. Fowler in 1826 born in Lawrence Co., Ohio. I also would like his brothers and sisters also all born in Lawrence Co., Ohio. We believe his father's name was William Fowler. For births between 1808 and 1826 where would I look? Thank you so much. My e-mail is connieandscott@yahoo.com.

birth and parents/adoption for Elizabeth Kemp in 1850
I have tried many times to find something about my great great grandmother Elizabeth Kemp's parents. On the 1870 census for Lawrence county, Rome township, there is an Eliz A. Kemp age 11, listed with the Runion family. On an yearlier census, the 1850 census for Lucas county, a five month old Elizabeth ? Kemp is found with family James and Cordelia Ann Kemp. I have been trying to find a link for ten years now with nothing concreat as to which Elizabeth I am related to, both born the same year. The reason for my confusion is that on a 1870 census in Ironton, Upper township Village of Ironton, there is a Mary A Kemp (adopted)by the Davidson family. Mary's mother Clarinda Kemp had died in June 1851 and father William Kemp was not able to take care of their children. If Elizabeth was a daughter of this Kemp family she would have been only a few months old at the time of Clarinda's death. It is just a guess but Elizabeth and Mary may have been sisters. In 1868 my great great grandmother married Charles Osborn in Lawrence Co., yet they lived in Greenup KY. I feel they may have gone to Ohio to be married to be with a her family which was common then. Also three of their eight children were born in Ohio 1869, 1877 & 1885. Their other five children were born in Greenup KY 1871, 1872, 1873, 1879 & 1883. So there was a real draw to Ohio for my Elizabeth.
Looking forward to any help or direction you may be able to lend me.
Sincerely,
Donna Egbert, doegbert@aol.com
