Mr. and Mrs. James H. Stephens

Submitted by Peggy A. Wells

----------------------------------------------------

Mr. and Mrs. James Harry Stephens of Russell are quietly celebrating their golden wedding anniversary today. Mrs. Stephens was before marriage, Miss Mary Rayburn, who was married to J. H. Stephens, August 10, 1882.

They reside in one of the oldest homes in Russell (KY) and have resided there continuously since their marriage. Only members of the family were quietly entertained today. They had a noon and afternoon party. There were present at the noon repast Mr. and Mrs. William Rowland and daughter Miss Anna, Mr. and Mrs. William Alexander and daughter Miss Wilmagene, Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Stephen and children Lily Frances and Billie, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stephens and son Maurice, Mrs. Carl Patterson, her son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. James Riggs and Miss Hazel Stephens. In the afternoon and evening dinner Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Stephens entertained their brothers and sisters. Mr. and Mrs. William North and niece Miss Ethel Smith of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Rayburn of Flatwoods, Ky., Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Wesley, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Trent, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Costella of Russell, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Stephens of Huntington, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Long of Charleston, W. Va., and Mrs. R. S. Trent of Russell.

Mr. and Mrs. Stephens have eight grand-children and three great grand-children. The guests in whose honor the family gathered were showered with flowers, telegrams and many lovely gifts. The pretty home was most attractive with all kinds of lovely flowers from neighboring gardens, and the days pleasures long to be remembered by these life long residents of Russell.

Ironton Tribune, 10 August 1932, Wednesday, Page 2.
