I. R. July 12, 1877 - Subscribers at some of the post office in the county complain that their papers are all mussed up when they get them - that they are opened and read at the post offices by anybody. This is wrong and we hope the postmasters will see that it is stopped. Men who are too stingy to pay for their county paper should not be allowed to read it.

I. R. July 28, 1892 - CHANGE OF ROUTE. - We understand that the post office department has changed the mail route from Marion down Symmes via Russells Place, so that it will begin at Willow Wood and run via Russells Place to Deering to connect there with the daily mail from Ironton.

 This maintains a daily mail at every point as before, but adds one advantage. The new route running up Leatherwood from Russells Place will provide the chance for an office that is much needed in the neighborhood of William Brammer place. There is a spot that is three miles from any post office, and this new arrangement will give this opportunity for increasing the mail advantages of this county.

I. R. June 9, 1892 - DAILY MAIL TO ARABIA

We are glad to announce that Gen. Enochs has secured an order for the establishment of a daily mail to Arabia via Hecla and Oak Ridge. This route was established two years ago, with a semi-weekly mail. Last winter it was changed to a tri-weekly. And now it is a daily. This is commendable progress, and we are all thankful to Congressman Enochs for this continuous interest in this matter. Good roads and daily mails are the omens of advancement.

We give the below the letter from the department to Gen. Enochs which gives the intelligence of this increased service:
           P. O. D. Washington, June 3.

Sir: I have the honor to inform you that, in compliance with your recommendation of the service on route 31,853, Ironton to Arabia has been increased to six times a week, to take effect June 15, 1892.

To Hon. W. H. Enochs.
So we are getting our mail facilities in this county in pretty good shape. There is still something else to do, and then the ground will be pretty generally covered. Establish a daily mail from Deerings to Willow Wood via Russells Place, the same to connect with the daily service from Ironton to Gallipolis. This done and the extensions of a daily to Scott Town on the Proctorville route and all the important centers of Lawrence county will have a daily mail. We are sure it
will come to that within a year.

KELLYS MILLS I. R. March 24, 1870 - Mr. Charles Kelly has sold out his grocery establishment to W. Smith, and will commence farming again. He has also resigned the Postmastership, in favor of Mr. Smith.

HECLA POST OFFICE I.R. Oct. 29, 1891 - The post office at Hecla will be opened for business with Chas. Campbell as postmaster. This is a good move.

 WATERLOO POST OFFICE

 - I. R. FEB. 18, 1892 DAILY MAIL TO WATERLOO There is nothing like having things just right; and that’s the way it is now with the mail from Ironton to Waterloo. Some time ago, an agent from Washington came here and changed the days of this tri-weekly service so that it was unsatisfactory to the newspapers and the people. Protests were made, and strong letters sent to the Department, and these have had their effect.

The Post Office Department have seen how inconvenient the new arrangement has been to the people, and so with judicious liberality, propose to correct the disturbance by placing a daily mail on the route. This is to commence today, the 18th, and henceforth, there will be a daily mail to Waterloo, via Pedro, Johns Creek and Sherritts. This is good. It brings that region into close connection with the outside world. To secure this desirable result, Gen. Enochs has worked with energy and judgment, and the people, we are sure, will appreciate his efforts.
