Also an old cemetery.
Several marked graves, more unmarked. Most barely legible
There is a large tombstone in the center, engraved with the name Charles Earles.
Charles Earles moved to Ohio in 1817, cleared land along Symmes Creek, and by 1821 had cleared 145 acres. Sons Bennet and William told stories of clearing trees and brush. It is said that Charles is the first white man to clear a farm on Symmes Creek. He sold it to his son Bennet, who later sold it to his son Daniel Jackson Earles, who then sold it to his son Finley Woodburn Earles.
Also buried at the cemetery are: Bennet Earles (son) born November of 1804. Died March 30 1895 at age 90. Married to Nancy Boothe.
Martin Earles (also son of Charles Earles) born November 19 1800, died April 29 1840. Rachel Morrison (3rd daughter of Martin Earles) died March 14 1849, a year after her marraige. Not sure how to add this to the list
Rankin cemetery is on the old Rankin farm, near Aid. Although it contains only three MARKED graves, there are many that are clearly visible but strangely, UNMARKED.
Rankin Cemetery has three marked graves
1. Hannah (Dilley) Rankin
Wife of Armstrong
2. Armstrong Rankin
March 27, 1797
Died July 18, 1849
3. John Rankin
October 26, 1821
Died August 6, 1844
Research I have come up with...
Armstrong Rankin and Hannah Dilley married October 25, 1816. They had 13 children. John Rankin was their 3rd child.
Armstrong and Hannah died of asciatic cholera. It is unknown what John died from. Another son, Hiram Rankin, was appointed adminstrator of the estate. He is the one who purchased the marble slabs.
