Alfred Lambert who visited here last Fall, died at Atchison, Kansas, last month. He was a son of the late Wm. Lambert, Sr., and was born in this county, near where Ironton is 64 years ago. Last Spring, he became paralyzed and demented and was sent to the insane asylum. His home was at Lynn, Kansas.

Of Waterloo, died August 3rd. He was born Oct. 30, 1832 in Lawrence county, Ohio and died Aug. 3, 1911 at his home near Waterloo, aged 79y 9m 3d. He leaves to mourn his loss one sister and other near relatives and friends. At the beginning of the Civil War he enlisted in Co. K. of the 5th W. Va. Infantry and served faithfully as a good soldier until the close of the war.

Mr. William G. Lambert, member of the firm of Lambert Bros. & Co., proprietors of the Olive Foundry and Machine Shops, died at his home, No. 206 Center St., shortly after 7, Wednesday. Death was due to pneumonia, complicated with other ailments. The dec'd was in the 55th year of his age. Native Lawrence countian having been born on the Lambert homestead farm, just north of the city. At the age of about 19, on Dec. 23d, 1861, he enlisted as a private in Co. H., Sixth Ohio Vol. Cavalry, and went to the front in defense of the Union. He served throughout the war ..mustered out as lieutenant, Aug. 21, 1865. .. his father, Wm. Lambert... After the death of his father, in 1876, Mr. Lambert and his elder brother, Mr. Reuben Lambert, and their sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Fisher, formed a partnership, and, purchasing the interest in the shops of Mr. Fred W. Gordan....Mrs. Lambert and six children survive: Mrs. Emil O. Arnold, Mr. Wm. G. Lambert, jr., Misses Bessie and Essie, and Masters James and George. Funeral under auspices of Dick Lambert Post, G. A. R., of which the dec'd was a charter member. The Post was named in honor of an elder brother of the deceased, Dick Lambert, who lost his life in service in July 1861, and was the first of Lawrence county's volunteers to die in his country's defense. Interment in Woodland. CIVIL WAR.

Drowned - Benjamin Lawless of Newcastle was drowned in the backwater back of Hanging Rock Saturday. Lawless, Amos Fuller and John Massie were in a joe-boat and were foolishly rocking the craft... The boat capsized and all were thrown into the water. ... The drowned man was about 30 years of age and leaves a wife and one child at Newcastle where he was employed with the Hanging Rock Iron Company. He was not related to Messrs. Bert and Mart Lawless of this city.

Man Killed - Last Saturday five men from Ashland crossed the river in a skiff, and went to a saloon below Petersburg (now Coal Grove), when they drank until they were pretty full. They were William Monigan, John Haney, Michael Donavan, John McClinksey and Joseph Layman. . . . A man named Sloan got into a quarrel with the men and hit Layman with an oar. Layman died the next morning, age about 17 years old and a nail feeder at Ashland.

The little son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Layne whose death occurred in Covington Thursday, was brought to this city by the grief stricken mother, the two grandmothers, Mrs. J. F. Austin and Mrs. Samuel G. Layne, and his uncle, John L. Layne. The party was met at the N & W depot by Mr. J. F. Austin, the little child's grandfather. . . interment at Woodland. Mr. and Mrs. Austin and Mrs. Otto Layne returned to Cincinnati . . . as Mr. Layne is sick at his home with an attack of typhoid fever. Mrs. S. G. Layne remained at home here.

Harvey Legg, 81, died Friday at his home 920 South 10th street, Ironton. Mr. Legg was born in Warsaw, Indiana, Dec. 15, 1868, a son of the late Wilson and Julia Davidson Legg. He located in the South Point community with his mother while a child and spent his entire life there, engaging in farming. He was united in marriage to Louise Freeman, July 6, 1890. Eleven children were born to this union. On son Elmer, died in 1922. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Edward Legg, South Point; John Legg, Ironton Rt. 1; Ralph Legg, Ironton Rt. 2; James Legg, Greenfield, Ohio; Paul Legg, Frankfurt, Indiana; Carl Legg stationed in Japan with the U. S. Army; Mrs. Marie Johnson, Ironton, Rt. 2; Mrs. Bessie Pemberton and Mrs. Ada Perkins both of Frankfurt, Ind.; Mrs. Flossie Jones, Coal Grove. Forty five grandchildren and thirty four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Ellen Davidson, of Columbus, Ohio. Burial in White Cottage Cemetery, at South Point.

Charles Lockhart, Well Known Here, Died Thursday in Pittsburg, Worth Millions. - Pittsburg, Jan. 27. - Charles Lockhart, 86, a native of Scotland, died yesterday at his residence in the East End from general debility. He leaves five children to inherit his estate. He was one of the wealthiest men in the U.S. and one of the least known. The foundation for his enormous wealth was liad in the oil business, from which grew the present Standard Oil Company. He was the founder of the International Navigation Company which controls lines of steamers plying between NY and Europe, was a director in the Western Union Telegraph Co, and President of the Pittsburg National Bank of Commerce. His wealth is estimated at $55,000,000.

Died near Cincinnati, 5th inst., aged about 93 years. He was one of the "pioneers." He settled in Adams County, six miles back of Manchester, in 1795. He was the first sheriff of that county, and held the office eight years, at two different periods. He also commanded a battalion under Gen. Harrison, at the siege of Fort Meigs. For over 30 years he has resided on the Ohio, just below Cincinnati. Mrs. Joseph S. Peebles, of Pine Grove Furnace, is his daughter.

Age 54, passed away at his home on south Fifth street Saturday . . . when he suffered a stroke while at the Marting Hotel. He was born March 4, 1870 in West Virginia and after completing his education entered the Louisville Medical College from which he graduated, later taking post graduate course in New York City. On Feb. 10, 1897 he married Miss Nellie Marting, daughter of Col. H. A. Marting and for more than 20 years was actively engaged in the practice of medicine in this city. . . . No children were born to this marriage and the widow is left to mourn. He is also survived by his father Lee Lowry, of Lowry Farm, near Kitts Hill, one sister, Mrs. Alice Barger, also of Lowry Farm, and one brother Dr. J. W. Lowry of this city. Another sister Dr. Sadie Lowry, died a few years ago. Interment: Woodland.

Mrs. Sarah Jane Lowry, wife of Dr. J. W. Lowry, died Sunday at her home on 4th and Washington streets. Mrs. Lowry's health started to fall shortly after the death of her mother four years ago. Mrs. Lowry was the daughter of D. H. and Sarah Bowen Clark and was born July 2, 1873, in the home at 4th and Washington, where she died. Her father Dent Clark was a pioneer in the wholesale business and he reared his family in this city. In December, 1896 she was united in marriage to Dr. J. W. Lowry, who survives. She is survived by her husband and one sister, Mrs. John Murdock of Sedgwick. Five brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Burial at Woodland.

Lynd, a Civil War veteran who passed away in 1925. She is survived by her daughter Mrs. Barber of Morehead, three grandson, Mr. C. T. Barber of Ironton, Mr. S. G. Barger of Ashland, Ky., and Mr. Chauncey Barber of Morehead; one granddaughter, Mrs. Lillian Frickler(?) of Cincinnati, and five great grandchildren, including Glen (?) Barber of Ironton. Interment at Woodland.

William P. Lynd, an aged resident of Ironton, died last Monday at the home of his son, S. S. Lynd, as the result of a stroke of paralysis. The deceased was born at Burlington, this county, May 23, 1832, being 77 years of age. He enlisted in the 188th O.V.I. and served as a private throughout the Civil War. Moved to Ironton 28 years ago. Survived by six children. They are: S. V., W. H., B. F., I. C., and S. S. Lynd, and Mrs. Joseph Campbell of this city.
