Sarah Bacon Disappears
|
|
A few days since, it will be remembered, that
Miss S.C. Bacon who kept a periodical depot in
Fourth Street
, opposite the Post Office, mysteriously disappeared. Last night,
Mrssrts. O'Neill and Ironton, Oh., informed us that a young woman,
answering her description, on Monday last, was in
Terre Haute
,
Ind.
, and took the cars to
Paris
,
Ill
and then the stage to Sulliva, Sullivan County,
Illinois
. She acted very strangely and exhibited symptoms of insanity.
After arriving at the hotel, she was questioned
by the landlady as to her name, residence and., when she remarked
that her name was Sarah O. Bacon, and that she was from
Cincinnati
. Shew was shortly after observed to talk a walk, and returning to
the hotel, swooned away. She was provided with comfortable quarters
and physicians called in, who stated that she had taken laudanum and
it was impossible to save her. She died on the following day,
Tuesday last. A two
ounce vial, labeled laudanum, was found in her possession.
