Summer is here, at least on the calendar. Next comes the fourth of July and we will soon be over the hump starting toward the football season, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and a new calendar. As a reader recently wrote me, "you seem to live in the past". Don’t we all? Every day when we listen to the play-by-play of the Reds baseball games, the radio announcer tells us each inning the past record of the batters. I wish my friends of long ago could have seen that happy crowd at Lawco Lake Saturday. The late Cecil Bales, Lee O’Leary, Waldo Mittendorf, Leo Brumberg, Ott Schweickart were among charter members in 1932 when the dam was built. Others among charter members were Art Dickens, Clarke Haney, and Bill Hunt. Lawrence County is very lucky to have a great lake resort like Lawco Lake.
